Yes we do have to provide this service. GAETC pays for the interpreters and
they normally have more than one. They rotate during the sessions.

I'm checking with our Sped staff, too. They may have some thoughts on local
folks for hire. If it wasn't school days, I'm sure we could contract with some
of our school system staff, but they'll be on contract here. I'll see what
thoughts they have and let everyone know :) Of course, maybe this GISN place
has two in the Savannah area.... Who is contacting them?

We are required to provide this service and probably travel expenses, too.
This can be very costly, maybe as much as $2000.00 a day for the two people.
GAETC has had to provide this service, too. We should try for someone in
Savannah and Priscilla may want to ask the convention center who they normally
use. I'm sure they have to deal with this often. Maybe Powerschool could help
with this, since he is one of their customers.

Subject: Needs: Interpreting Services

To all conference co-chairpersons,

I have registered yesterday to attend the GSIS conference in Savannah, GA. Some
of you might know me well as I am deaf and have participated in PowerSchool
sessions through GaETC in the past years. I need sign language interpreters in
order to fully participate in the GSIS conference during three-day conference,
starting Monday, February 11th at 8 am thru Wednesday, February 13th at 12:30

I request GSIS to provide American Sign Language interpreting services for me
and hearing presenters/attendees. I know one of ASL interpreters who happen to
live in Savannah. His name is Ramon Norrod. You need to contact Georgia
Interpreting Services Network (GISN) to hire two (2) ASL interpreters on each
day. Contact information is shown below. You need to contact GISN via Marilyn
Teague as soon as possible before the assignments tend to be booked up fast,
based on interpreters' availability. Also, please provide GISN a copy of
conference agenda, including list of sessions with time five days prior to the

404-521-9100<tel:404-521-9100> or 8000-228-4992
