Sounds like we're going to have to manually enter a historical grade for
Anatomy and Physiology. Do we include the 'grade' for that 'course' in figuring
GPA? Do we send that 'course grade' up during student record, even if it isn't
actually scheduled?

Yeah, I really know that but I want the DOE to think about these things.
However, if a district has designated the Anatomy course as an SLO course and
you assign a teacher, you will get errors on the Anatomy course since no
teacher will be administering a SLO.

My whole point is that the DOE should provide guidance when these types of
changes are issued. We should not have to try to figure it out. If we all try
to figure out what we should do, each district may be doing things differently
and as students transfer, that could be an issue.

Just talked to Josh on what we need to do, he said if we just add it to the
transcripts, the HiQ will not matter. If you schedule, then the HiQ, comes
into play.

Why won’t the DOE just think things all the way through or propose it to an
advisory committee that includes data people so all of these questions can be
answered first? I don’t want to tell my people how to do anything until I know
what the DOE is expecting. I did forward the email to Wanda Jones and Betty
Rickicki.

Exactly. How do we award credit? Do we enter the Anatomy course on the
transcript? What grade do we give or do we give a P for pass? Who is the
teacher of record? Chances are that the Healthcare teacher is not HiQ for
Anatomy. Do we only give the Anatomy credit if the student passes Healthcare
based on “students who earn a unit of credit for Essentials of Healthcare
(25.44000) will also receive a unit of credit for Human Anatomy/Physiology
(26.07300).”? What if the student fails Healthcare?

I found this on the DOE’s website
(http://www.gadoe.org/Curriculum-Instruction-and-Assessment/Curriculum-and-Instruction/Documents/CIA%20NEWSLETTERS/Summary-of-Changes-IDA-3-160-4-2-20-for-2015-2016.pdf)
It is the Draft version of Additions/Deletions/Changes to the courses for
15-16 School Year. This is what it is showing for the course. It sounds like
it isn’t DOE law yet. ☺

25.44000 Essentials of Healthcare Course meets fourth science requirement;
Students who earn 1 unit of credit for this course shall also receive 1 unit of
credit for Human Anatomy and Physiology, course number 26.07300 beginning for
students enrolled in the 2014-2015 school year and subsequent years. Course
meets fourth science requirement; Pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 20-2-159.3 and State
Board of Education Rule 160-5-1- .15 AWARDING UNITS OF CREDIT AND ACCEPTANCE OF
TRANSFER CREDIT AND/OR GRADES, it is recommended that students who earn a unit
of credit for Essentials of Healthcare (25.44000) will also receive a unit of
credit for Human Anatomy/Physiology (26.07300). This will be the first time a
recommendation is being made to the State Board of Education to award course
credit for a CTAE course and course credit for an associated academic core
course that includes embedded standards from an academic core subject area.

Have any of you heard about this yet? Hopefully, we will get some guidance
from the DOE before the end of the year.

Carolyn and Susan,
I was in a meeting today at Chatt Tech. This information was discussed and is
in IDA3 for next school year. Here is an example of one course. I know that
Marores has stated already that at a state CTAE meeting that this information
was presented to CTAE directors by Pam Smith.

[cid:image001.png@01D0898C.80296E50]

While Marores and I don’t understand how this is not double dipping and don’t
agree that two credits should be awarded for the same course, I just need to
know what either of you have heard. Currently, we only post to transcript a
course that a student is enrolled in with a teacher involved on one line of
transcript history. When a course meets two area requirements such as CTAE and
Science, one course credit is on the transcript under CTAE. The transcript
audit shows that a science requirement has also been met. However, another
credit has not been awarded meaning two credits for this single course which
would mean two CIP codes, two different department categories, etc. Does this
mean that a student could graduate this year and take only 22 credits because
we would manually update transcript history with another CIP code, course
title, credit, etc.?

Of course, we use primary teacher override field for online, dual enrollment,
etc. courses. Would the same teacher’s name be on this added credit in science
in the example above? Is it expected that counselors will simply add another
entry to transcript history for these kinds of courses. How does this impact
the HiQ for the teacher? How does impact anything with TKES.

I am lost and confused….please note that this begins this school year. One
example is above.

Thank you for your help,
Susan
