If you only want to publish bibliographic data from Gensis (which I understand is in CDS/ISIS format) you can easily generate a self-executing CD-ROM (in many languages including English, Brazilian and Spanish) with the open source Greenstone Digital Library suite (http://www.greenstone.org). You can also easily add the original documents for full text search and display. If, however, your application includes library automation functions (cross-links between records, etc.) we would have to see what is possible and how. Dear colleagues,
As previously anounced, here comes a first note or information nugget about ABCD = Automation of Libraries and Documentation Centers.
ABCD is a long held aspiration for the ISIS community, since the first MS-DOS version came out more than 20 years ago. Finally, this aspiration is about to come true.
We'll first present a list of its basic functionalities and attributes. In further nuggets we'll give details about each of them. * ABCD is an integrated library management software comprising the main basic library functions:
· Definition of any number of new databases (similar to Winisis), which includes: FDT, PFT, FST, and worksheets directly on the Web, or copying from existing ones either from the Web or from Winisis on a local hard disk,
· cataloguing of books and serials, independently of the format: MARC, LILACS, AGRIS, etc. 

·      end-user searching (OPAC),

·      loans circulation,

·      acquisitions,

·      statistics,

·      library services like SDI, barcode printing, quality control, etc.
* The software will be compatible with CDS/ISIS database technology for the bibliographic databases, i.e. reading ISIS-databases and making use of ISIS Formatting Language (or something functionally similar) for producing output (PFT) and indexing (FST) of records; 
   * The software will run on both Windows and Linux platforms;
* The software will allow the use of MARC-21 cataloging formats and other current standards or protocols (Dublin Core, METS, Z39.50...); * The software will be published as Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) with the accompanying tools for the developer community; * The software will be intrinsically multi-lingual, with English, Spanish, Portuguese and French interfaces being available by the end of 2008; * The software will be fully documented for system-managers in at least one language, preferably English, by the end of 2008; * UNICODE-compatibility will at least be envisaged and prepared, if not in the actual version then for an upcoming future version, which is part of the ISIS-NBP paralell project; * A testing version will be ready by September 2008 to be presented in the 3rd World Isis Meeting; * This version and manuals will be used as training materials for an international Training Workshop on the software in March 2009.

Tal como hemos anunciado, damos inicio a la primer noticia o bocadillo de información acerca de qué es ABCD = Automatización de Bibliotecas y Centros de Información.
ABCD es una larga aspiración de todos los usuarios de ISIS, desde su primera versión 20 años atrás en MS-DOS. Finalmente esta aspiración está cerca de convertirse en una realidad.
Enunciemos una lista básica de sus funcionalidades y atributos, y en las próximas notas pasaremos a dar detalles de cada una de ellas.
o Un software integrado para amdinistración de bibliotecas, comprendiendo las funciones básicas bibliotecarias.
1. Definición de cualquier número de bases de datos nuevas (similar al Winisis), lo que incluye: FDT, PFT, FST, y hojas de captura de datos, directamente en el Web, o copiando desde bases existentes en el Web, o desde Winisis el el disco duro local;
2. Catalogación de libros y publicaciones periódicas, independientemente del formato: MARC, LILACS, AGRIS, etc. 

3.      Interfaz de consulta por el usuario final (OPAC);

4.      Circulación y préstamos;

5.      Adquisiciones;

6.      Estadísticas;
7. Servicios de bibliotecas tales como DSI, impresión de códigos de barras, controles de calidad, etc.
o El software es compatible con la tecnología de bases de datos CDS/ISIS para bases bibliográficas, a saber, lectura de bases ISIS usando el lenguaje de formatos de ISIS (o funcionalidades similares) para generar salidas (PFT) e indización (FST) de registros; 

o        El software funciona tanto en plataforma Windows como Linux;
o El software permite el uso de formatos de catalogación MARC-21 y otras normas actuales o protocolos (Dublin Core, METS, Z39.50?);
o El software será publicado como Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) junto con las herramientas complementarias para la comunidad de desarrolladores;
o El software es intrínsecamente multilingüe, con interfaces en inglés, español, portugués y francés disponibles para fin del año 2008;
o El software estará plenamente documentado para los administradores del sistema en por lo menos un idioma, preferiblemente inglés, para fin de 2008;
o Se prevé la compatibilidad con UNICODE, y si no está implementado en la presente versión, lo estará para una versión futura, lo que es parte esencial del proyecto paralelo ISIS-NBP;

Thank you for the information on AB= CD and other development taking place with ISIS, surely makes an appetizing= run-up to the conference. One question though concerning ABCD, will the so= ftware require a 24/7 connection to the internet or it is just a web-based = interface like GENISIS-web which can be run from a local host..
