Hi Piet,

 

If you like, you can email me the .pol file and I may be able to resurrect
it. or at least find out the settings that you have in it. I have some
routines that read .pol files directly.

Hi Darren, 

 

I do not have a backup.. that is the problem (-: 

 

The corrupt file is on the main DC   (I added a replica recently, but that
was after the corruption occurred.) 

So there is no good GPO available.  

 

Do I have to rebuild the GPO?  I have not tried deleting it yet, and assume
I can't since I am not able to edit it.  If that is the case what are my
options?  

 

there are many settings in this GPO which I need to keep.

Ok. If that's the case, then that means the file truly is corrupted, which
means you will probably have to restore that GPO from backup. Hopefully you
have a recent GPMC backup of the GPO? Also, you might also try changing the
DC that GP Editor is focused on to another within your environment, just in
case the corruption is only on the PDC DC.

There is a registry.pol file in the sysvol at the given location.

Piet-

My guess is that if you look in SYSVOL for that file, it will not be there.
Can you confirm that?

Hello,

 

I get the the following errors with my Default Domain Policy:

 

1. In the GPMC settings:

 

An error has occurred while collecting data for Administrative Templates.


The following errors were encountered:


The file
"\\xxxx.xxxx.swiftriver.com\sysvol\xxxx.swiftriver.com\Policies\{31B2F340-01
6D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\Machine\registry.pol" is not in a valid format.
The file might be corrupt. Use Group Policy Object Editor to reconfigure the
settings in this extension.

 

2. When I try to edit the default domain policy I get an error saying I do
not have the appropriate rights and "unspecified error"  I have been able to
edit with the same account in the past and have full rights to the policy. 

 

 

 

My goal is to be able to edit this policy  and fix it.
