Thank you Andrew again for the response; for further clarification, the AD acct 
'home' folder is a mapped drive, not a folder redirection. So, it really 
doesn't have any reflection on the My Doc folder redirection. The home location 
is configured to go to the 
\\servername\users\%username%<file:///\\servername\users\%25username%25> (no 
"HOME" folder) path just as my folder redirection GPO. Also, for the 
permissions piece you explain, most of my users have their My Docs in the 
%username% folder so I'm not sure why this is now being done on this other GPO 
(adding of the My Docs to the UNC path).

Hi Shane,

Unfortunately I can't comment on previous GPO methods for doing this as I've 
only messed about with this setting recently.

In regards to the second part, when I give a user a home directory I believe it 
pre-populates 
\\servername\users\%username%\<file:///\\servername\users\%25username%25\> with 
4 folders; Home, Profile and two others I can't remember the name of (currently 
sat at Brussels airport with very poor connectivity so daren't RDP into UK 
based server to clarify). So I guess that if AD is already aware of a 
redirection for your users (Home folder) then it wouldn't want to redirect 
their Docs folder to 
\\servername\users\%username%\<file:///\\servername\users\%25username%25\> as 
this is effectively the users "Root" folder.

Also, now I think about it, I don't believe users can navigate out of their 
Home folder 
(\\servername\users\%username%\Home\<file:///\\servername\users\%25username%25\Home\>)
 with the standard privileges given to them. Maybe this is another reason the 
redirect can't put the My Documents redirection in the \%username%\ folder, as 
the user would then either not be able to access them or the redirection would 
have to assign permissions which could effectively allow the user to mess with 
the contents of the other three folders, one of which is a Profile folder and 
could contain some very important profile redirection files.

Hope this helps. I welcome Darren, Alan, Jamie or someone else to come in and 
clear this up if I'm wrong :)

I went into the HELP and yes Andrew...it does state that (no Explain tab in 
these setting boxes); what confuses me is 1. my other folder redirection 
settings in another GPO has 
\\servername\users\%username%<file:///\\servername\users\%25username%25>. And, 
that's what it's always been in the past. I had to look at this particular GPO 
yesterday due to My Doc folders not getting redirected at this particular site, 
and was playing around with it by retyping the setting and noticed the GPO 
displaying this new UNC path, which  is inconsistent with my other GPOs. 
Secondly, what this is doing is ADDING a My Doc folder within their user folder 
(i.e. instead of their local My Doc folder being redirected to the 
\\servername\users\%username%<file:///\\servername\users\%25username%25> path, 
it's being redirected to \\servername\users\%username%\My 
Document<file:///\\servername\users\%25username%25\My%20Document>s). So now, 
when they open their My Doc folder, they aren't seeing their documents because 
of the new path. Now, we do have AD accts set for home directories to this same 
location 
(\\servername\users\%username%<file:///\\servername\users\%25username%25>). 
Would it be best to just change the TARGET FOLDER LOCATION setting to "Redirect 
to user's home folder"? Hope I'm making sense. :)

Hi Shane,

Isn't this default behaviour for the setting? I think it says so in details of 
the setting.

If you just put \\servername\users<file:///\\servername\users> then all of the 
users documents would all end up in the same folder.

I assume MS adds the username\my docs for a bit of organisation, so that all 
that users files are in a folder under their name, and if you want to redirect 
docs, desktop, start menu, it can again segment the files into Username\MyDocs, 
Username\Desktop, etc?

When modifying my GPO for My Doc folder redirection, I type in the path 
\\servername\users<file:///\\servername\users>, but the UNC that is displayed 
in the setting dialog box and in the policy is \\servername\users\%username%\My 
Documents<file:///\\servername\users\%25username%25\My%20Documents>. Why is 
that? How do I change it? (see pic below)
