[gptalk] Administratively assigned offline files - when is the path translated

How and when is that path translated.

I have a path as follows:

\\servername\share\%username%

Because I want each user's folder to administratively assigned as an offline 
folder, but I am wondering if this is an effective or smart use of this feature
