Here in New England, city planners or road planners or whoever they are have
the deplorable habit of never putting street signs along main thoroughfares.
So the driver can see the names of the cross streets, but there is often no
way of telling what street you are driving on. For obvious reasons, this is
a real problem if you are lost. Everyone says that here in New England, the
attitude reflected
in this practice is:
If you weren't born here, or if you don't know where you are, you shouldn't
be here.
So having our GPS speak the street you are on as well as the cross
street at least once in a while is helpful.

Doug,
Not sure why you think we have strongly resisted an announcement of the
cross street only. This is the first request to my knowledge for that
feature. We add these requests to our database and prioritize them based
upon the number of user requests and the difficulty of implementing the
feature.
I personally think this is an excellent idea.

Although you can't do things like plan a route with Trekker in vehicle
mode,
you can hear every street name as you travel on a bus or by car. It speaks
it quickly and succinctly. My most serious complaint with the Sendero GPS
system is the lack of verbosity settings. For example, if there were a
"quick speak mode for intersections, you just need to hear the street your
crossing, not the street your on. For some reason this has been resisted
by
the company. I believe it could be a terrific aid for people trying to
identify upcoming streets as you travel by bus.
That My two cents.
