[gps-talkusers] Re: potential page for Travel Tips

Mike, all very interesting - and you could sure collect a lot of
information.

Our telephone country code is +44, then you drop the first 0 found in
the full numbers (area code etc) allocated. (EG: Reading is 0118 so
becomes +44 118 followed by the rest of the number.)
The Royal National Institute for the Blind's main telephone number in
London is +44 (0) (which from abroad would be omitted), follow by 20
7388 1266.

Main cities are London, Birmingham, Manchester.

Main airports are Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead, Luton, Birmingham,
Manchester, Newcastle.

Transport includes - London underground, then Liverpool and Newcastle
have rail networks. There are a number of rail networks covering all
the UK and Scotland, linking cities and towns. Manchester and
Croydon/Wimbledon have tram lines. There are a number of bus and coach
companies.

Ask if you need any more.

Subject: [gps-talkusers] potential page for Travel Tips

On many occasions, I have talked to blind friends about the need for
a place to collect tips and information relevant for blind travelers.
The following is a sample of the types of information I am thinking
about. One suggestion was to use the Wiki as a means of permitting
users to submit information for the cities they know.
Have a look at this and let me know your suggestions.
Mike

Blindness Travel Tips

This page contains travel tips and information gleaned from blind
travelers and people who work in the orientation and mobility
field. We cannot vouch for its accuracy only its voracity.

General, Dog Guides:
Special paperwork is required in Hawaii, the UK and Ireland,
Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Finland. In general,
island countries should be planned for well in advance. Developing
countries probably don't have specific laws permitting dog guides in
public places.

Although Van Ness is called Highway 101, it isn't a freeway and no
major freeway runs North through SF.

same platform for cities South like San Jose.
BART travels north to Richmond where one can connect to Amtrak for
Sacramento. A United Red Carpet Club is just prior to the open area
