Peggy,
This is so obvious I almost hate to mention it, but one can do funny things
when they get frustrated. Did you remember to press the enter key to make the
receiver stay on?
Also, did you set the option in gps 3.1 for Magellan receivers? The default is
serial.
Two things you probably did, but thought I'd mention them anyway.
At least your email works!

Hi, all. I'm so frustrated with my Sportrak! Of all times to give out, it
would have to happen on vacation in Portland. I thought at first my cable had
given out
again, because I'd get a no fix message then a not detected message, then a no
fix again, and back and forth. But my sighted husband looked at the
receiver and said that it was going on and off, and when it would go off, it
would give a little beep. I tried changing batteries, but still have the same
results.
I guess I'll have to look into the Earthmate when I get back home. I wonder if
it gives out like the Sportrak seems to. I had to undo and then re-do my
serial
connection when I upgraded the BrailleNote, but tried to be careful; I hope I
didn't break something.
But at least I can use virtual mode. (sigh)
