Mike,
I think that the idea of having a monthly seminar on GPS is a great idea and
is one that will draw more attention as it is once a month and there will be
a designated topic.
I think the flaw with the current setup is the timing in the week as well as
there not being a set topic. There is also the possibility of people having
the thought of if they don't attend it this week then there is always next
week.
I think that with there being a set topic, being just once a month and an
expert on the particular topic that it will make things interesting and
creative an incentive for people to come. I think one thing that may be a
challenge is finding the proper time for the seminar so that it will suit a
variety of time zones and having it on a day where it won't interfere with
people attending.

Subject: [gps-talkusers] new chat concept
Hi Folks,
Our original concept with our weekly chat room was that new users would have
a free place to come and ask questions. They could hear from the experts as
well as other users. We haven't found that very many people have taken
advantage of this service.
I am thinking I will organize a once a month seminar on GPS that is more
generic in nature. For example, let's have an expert on WAAS and assisted
GPS present to users. We could get someone from our map company, Tele Atlas,
to tell us about the details of collecting and updating data. There are all
sorts of GPS topics we could probably cover that would be of interest to the
entire accessible GPS community.
I need to get a couple months lined up before we launch this and we won't
necessarily discontinue the weekly chats but we might.
