[gps-talkusers] Re: list to the rescue

Hello Todd,

The map data (.rmf) is already compressed.  We could compress the indexing 
files which indexes streets and cities to specific map indexes but since 
the RMF map is already compressed and is huge this wouldn't gain us 
anything in terms of being able to upload/download an entire State map.

The entire USA is slightly larger than 5 Gigs.  This includes the map raw 
binary compressed data as well as the text indexing files.

The Text indexing files which could be compressed is approximately 18% of 
the Richmap size.  Which would be for the entire USA approximately 90 Megs.
