Hello Rosemary
Yes I use gps often in that way doesn't it make you feel so much
more confident while traveling.
two weeks ago I was on the bus in my home town on route to tune a
customer's piano with Nathan my Guide Dog but without my gps
because my Braillenote bt was away receiving its transplant to
M-Power.
I realised after some time that my 30 route bus wasn't going the
right way and by that time I was confused, (they'd changed the
bus route in the previous week!!!"
I did realise eventually where I was but it was scary for a
while.
I so wished gps had been there.
We are greatly privileged as blind individuals to have this
technology, I understand that there are only about 50 blind
people using gps in uk hopefully as cheaper systems become
available more VI's will be able to take advantage of this hugely
empowering equipment.

Hi, I know this has happened to all of you many times, but it was
a first for me. I mostly use my GPS with pedestrian routes,
creating them and then following by walking with my Seeing-Eye
dog, Velvet. But the other day I was traveling to a friend's
house by bus. I told the driver where I wanted to get off, and I
also set repeat cross streets. I saw Perkins Street come up, and
said, "Oh, this is my stop." By the way the driver responded, I
could tell that he'd forgotten that he told me that he'd call out
the stop. I hadn't traveled that route before, so I really
didn't know how long the ride would be. What a thrill! And I
got off, crossed the street, took a right, and walked directly to
the house. Yippie!
