Well if both were retained (with such verbosity), it may work to add "on"
Street X and "Approaching" Street Y for clarity, but it wouldn't really
solve the problem you outline below. Perhaps folk could set their options.
The trouble with keeping the speed above 15 MPH is that, particularly in
heavy traffic, buses are often crawling, thus the speed may vary quite a bit
especially where a traffic light control is coming up ahead.
If options don't make life to complex, I'd go for giving personal choice;
if not, especially for travelling, it would still be very useful to know
which street is either just ahead or just crossing.
That probably makes little sense to anyone at this time of night here, but
perhaps you get the gist of what I'm feeling.

Now, there is one slight issue to wort out with this feature request.
Remember that GPS accuracy changes a lot. If you are stopped or slowed
down near an intersection, it is very possible that your position may
flick between the street you are traveling on and the one you are
crossing. Therefore, if you drop the announcement of both streets, it is
possible that you will ocasionally receive an cross street announcement of
the street that you are on rather than the correct one you are crossing.
One way we could deal with that is to announce the cross street, as you
are suggesting, only over 15 miles per hour and then we would leave the
behavior under 15 miles per hour the same as it is.
Another question about this feature:
Is there reason to create an option of cross street announcement only or
should this be the regular behavior? Every time we add an option, we also
add complexity. Perhaps we don't need to have the street you are on
announcing all the time.
What do you all think?

I agree with this option. I find is sometimes more of a
distraction to hear
the points of interest. Even when I have that turned off.

thanks Mike,
I understand the dillemmas when something is suggested by one
user.
Therefore maybe others can jump in here.
What I'm suggesting is a user selectable mode that can be used in
vehicles
that will just tell you street names as you get close or pass
them.
You don't need the name of the street your on repeated over and
over, and in
a bus when you are waiting for your street, you don't really need
to know
"right or left, you just need the street name. So I'm suggesting
a setting
that overrides the speed related change in announcements, plus
more control
over the verbosity.
By the way, Since I use my GPS on a PK, this brief announce mode
would be
ideal for braille. I often run with speech off when in a car or
bus.
Thanks for listening Mike.

Doug,
Not sure why you think we have strongly resisted an announcement
of the
cross street only. This is the first request to my knowledge for
that
feature. We add these requests to our database and prioritize
them based
upon the number of user requests and the difficulty of
implementing the
feature.
I personally think this is an excellent idea.

Although you can't do things like plan a route with Trekker in
vehicle
mode, you can hear every street name as you travel on a bus or by
car.
It speaks it quickly and succinctly. My most serious complaint
with the
Sendero GPS system is the lack of verbosity settings. For
example, if
there were a "quick speak mode for intersections, you just need
to hear
the street your crossing, not the street your on. For some
reason this
has been resisted by the company. I believe it could be a
terrific aid
for people trying to identify upcoming streets as you travel by
bus.
That My two cents.
