[gps-talkusers] e: Re: e: Re: edundant 2008 files?

Hi, I am not sure I would delete the incomplete one for the simple reason that next time you upgrade the user files, you will just be putting the ones you deleted back in again. Seems like a daunting problem to deal with unless you can run the files through some computerized comparison program or something. Jim

I found an RMF POI that didn't have the details that the
commercial POI did,
so I deleted it.
Then, I found an RMF POI that had better detail than the
commercial one.
So, I plan to keep them all until I find such duplicates and
remove the one
that has less data.

Enjoy,
Richard

the ones released the other day are not the commercial database.
They are a base set of POIs that were extracted from the map
themselves.
It won't hurt to keep them all.

Hi Chris, well forgive me but I am still confused. I would think

rather then deleting the newest 2008 files, I would want to
delete
older ones and keep the latest ones. Jim

Hi Jim,
the 2008-USA-rmf files are the ones released a couple days ago.
You can delete those, but make sure you get both files, .pdb and
rmf.

you may have duplicate pois because the same poi might be in the
commercial database as well as the new rmf files.

If you view a pois details you can scroll down to the "tags"
field, if
it says RMF the POI is in the new RMF files.

Hope this helps.

Hi Chris, I am trying to figure out if I have too many redundant
files in my maps directory. I can't send you all the names but
they
are the 2008 user and Usa files. I downloaded the latest ones
that
were created on Monday 12 15 and put them in my maps folder
thinking
they would replace some older versions of same, but they didn't.
So
my question is, do I need all of the 2008 files or are some
redundant
and can I delete them? Thanks, Jim
