I've been using the sirf3 demo package that sirf provides. It works
reasonably well with jfw. Again, probably not for the faint of heart but it
at least saved me from having to order a new unit. I actually like the
sirf3 based devices.

I looked into doing this with a Royaltek receiver, but the software was
a bear to use with speech, and I was scared of making a mistake and not
knowing how to correct it. Even more skilled computer users than myself
backed away from trying this.

Many receivers have a battery backed up storage facility for settings so
a reconfiguration on each powerup wouldn't be necessarily required
(depends on the unit). However, I wasn't suggesting anyone do this
lightly just that it's an option if folks are having resolution issues
at low speeds. I need to admit though that I am a hopeless gear head
for life so while I tend to go straight under the hood and start
tweaking your milage may varry!

Hello everyone,
This is true, you can usually tweak this settings with the right
software,
but from the tests we have seen you would have to change those
settings
each time you turn on the receiver. At least older versions did have
that
limitation, not sure if the off-the-shelf m1000 has this same
limitation
or not. It also remains to be seen how accessible this software is to
adjust these settings.
I really don't know, I am just making you aware of all the issues.
Charles.

chances are there are knobs you can twittle to improve performance.

So, if I remember correctly, the gpslim236 that Sendero sells has
been
specially modifed. I think this modification was to always have waas
turned on.
Am I right about this, and is a similar modification necesary for the
M1000?
Thanks,
Jim

Carol,
I will list the benefits below:
* 17 hours of battery life as compared to 8 on the (GPSlim236)
* still has an on/off switch
* will fit into GPSlim236 case, uses same charger and battery as
well
* uses a newer chipset that allows greater accuracy, greater
sensativity,
and greater battery life
* will get waas more often
* cheaper as well
I know that the above didn't directly answer your question regarding
being a
cane user and slower speeds but thought I throw in the benefits of
this
reciever.
