Jim and others,
A method that I personally use when I cannot find an address is one of the
following:
1. Try keying the address into maps.google.com to see if there is some
prefix as SW in the street name or to see if the common city name may be
different than the mapping city name. I will then take the information from
Google and input it again into the Sendero GPS. This works about 95% of the
time.
2. If both the Sendero GPS and maps.google address lookup fail then I will
result to lat/lon. I will use a tool that the Loadstone team developed that
allows you to input an address and it will give you the latitude and
longitude coordinates for that address. Using this method you don't have to
worry that whether or not if TeleAtlas is doing their wierd city limit thing
or you don't have to go through the entire address lookup exercise. The link
is:
http://www.loadstone-gps.com/tools/
There are two tools that I use from this site:
Geocoder, tool that will take an address and convert it into latitude and
longitude
Degrees to decimal converter, will convert latitude and longitude
coordinates from the format presented with the "Y" command into the format
TeleAtlas prefers when reporting mapping discrepancies.
So, Jim with your example I was able to find out that the street lakeside dr
had a SW prefix by using maps.google.com. But,Mary with your example of
Stanley Dr I had to resort to the Loadstone tool and go off by latitude and
longitude. I would say that between these two additional methods you are
sure to find any address on the face of this planet.
Happing address finding
Kevin
