[gps-talkusers] creating a rout in text format

I was wondering if it is possible to create a vehicle rout in the gps and save it as a text file. I know how to create routs and save them I just don't know how to convert them if possible. I am possible going on a trip and wanted to email my friend who would be driving the directions I get from my gps.
