One of the reasons you don't find as many points of interest on
Trekker and perhaps on Wayfinder is because there is an assumption
that most people don't care about non travel related businesses.
Hotels, restaurants, fuel stations and parking garages are going to
be of high interest where as Joe's paint shop, sally's beauty salon
or Vito's watch repair are not thought to be important. Therefore,
companies decide not to pay the extra licensing price for this low
priority data.
Many of us love using our GPS like an electronic geocoded yellow
pages. This is a huge advantage we have over sighted users because of
the data we have and because we see this as a feature and the
software supports this feature in Sendero GPS products. I rarely call
information anymore to find a phone number or business because I
prefer to look it up on my GPS relative to my position or to a place
I will be in town.
This is also where the Explore mode comes in handy. I like to
virtually put myself at my location of interest and then familiarize
myself with the streets around that location or to see what other
businesses are in the vicinity. I may want to go to a hardware store
and then find a nearby restaurant afterwards. This is the beauty of
the Sendero Explore mode.
