[gps-talkusers] a unique use for manual and virtual routes

I am working on a trip to Europe and used the Sendero GPS route recording 
features to help me figure out the shortest route to visit 8 cities. I went to 
a GeoCoding web site and typed in the name of the city and country and got the 
lat/lon for that city. I set that lat/lon as my virtual position. I then 
recorded a manual waypoint at that virtual position. I repeated these steps for 
each city.

Then, I rearranged the waypoints, checking after I moved each point to see what 
the total route distance was. I wanted to minimize the amount of back tracking 
we do. This is a rough estimate but it was a fantastic tool to help in 
understanding the distances and direction between the various cities.

The other useful aspect of creating a virtual route using a city lat/lon, is so 
that I can quickly place myself in that city without having to know an address. 
Once I load the route, I can go to any of the waypoints and set it as my 
virtual position. This works of course in countries where we have maps but also 
in countries where we don't. Maybe someone could take on the ambitious project 
of creating a waypoint for every country. You could then set any country as 
your virtual position and find out how far it was from any other country.
