A roundabout is a thing that sits in the middle of a junction. A
junction is where a number of roads meet. In the UK, we drive on the
left, so you come to the junction and turn left and hence circle the
round about in a clockwise direction. You then take the turn you want
from this kind of orbital route you are doing around the round about. As
to what a round about is, well it is a raised patch of ground, maybe
grassed or just concrete. Ideally you could drive over it but it is
usually designed to discourage this.
