[gps-talkusers] Re: UK Ireland and Spain Commercial POIs Update

Hi all 

Looking at the new UK POIs I notice that there have been considerable changes. 
TelAtlas seem to have changed some of their sources of information. For example 
in my street there used to be five POIs listed. There are still five POIs 
listed but four of them are different. There seems to be no reason for the 
changes. For example my wife's business was listed - the business is still 
running but it has gone as a POI. More importantly our local pub was on the POI 
list but it has now gone. Neither my wife nor the pub no of any reason why they 
should have been removed from the POI list. 

Looking around it would seem that similar changes have happened elsewhere. 
Whether or not these changes make the maps more reliable or less is hard to 
determine. 

I have already discovered a larger number of misplaced POIs. These are one's 
that have errors in their long/lat and consequently appear in the wrong place. 
I apparently have a new pub 643 feet from my front door. It is actually about 
half a mile due west of its stated position. 

Fortunately none of these problems are down to Sendero as a friend with the 
latest Tomtom maps tells me that at least some of the problems I have found are 
also on his maps. His Tomtom does not have nearly as many POIs as the Sendero. 

Sorry this has got a bit waffly.

  For those who have the Western European Map/POI Bundle, I have just updated 
the commercial POIs for UK, Ireland and Northern Ireland.  We found a potential 
small issue and have fixed the problem.  It is recommended that you go and 
download the latest copy (July 21, 2009) of the UK/Ireland POIs from the file 
UK_Ireland_POIs_2009.zip.  This file replaces the one I uploaded yesterday, so 
if you downloaded the UK/Ireland POIs yesterday please download them again.

   

  I have now also finished the new commercial POIs for Spain which can be found 
in the file Spain_POIs_2009.zip.

   

  Tomorrow I should have a number of other Western European countries finished.
