Agreed, I've accidentally done the same thing and all you can do is start over.
The option to cancel would allow one to return to where they have left off.

Subject: [gps-talkusers] Suggestion for future upgrade
Dear GPS Users,
I have thought of a fix that I would like to see as a future upgrade. I have
found it to be a bit frustrating when I accidentlly hit space with e while I am
in the GPS program and I end up getting the prompt:do you wish to save this
route?" I have found it to be a bit time consuming, especially when you have
calculated a long route and accidentley hit space e. The only two choices when
this prompt appears is yes or no. I think there should be an option to cancel
and resume the route. This ability to cancel when the "do you wish to save this
route appears?" should also be universal to the space with z command, space
with dots 1-2-3-4-5-6, and space with e command. This isn't a major issue, but
it would be nice if it were possible to cancel a command that will close your
route and return you back to either the GPS menu or the main menu.
