[gps-talkusers] Re: St Thomas Island map? Bluetooth question...

So first, I called Flight Options, I can have a jet ready with in 12 hours to get me to St Thomas if you need that map created.:) How fast I can get a BN and Sendero not sure but I could always get there and do some "preplanning". Curiously, that same preplanning also involves umbrella drinks.

On a more serious note, there are several ways to go with bluetooth and it all depends on how much environmental sound you need. I'll assume that you need as much as possible. THere are three options as I see them for good quality headsets. These are the Jawbone, Plantronics 855 and Oakley Raisor glasses. The Jawbone has teriffic noise cancelation but only supports the hands free profile so your audio quality is 8KHZ in width at best. However, the jawbone does not block as much environmental noise as others and does a good job at transmitting voice. I use Mobilespeak with the jawbone daily in all sorts of noise settings from traffic to a data center and it performs nicely. Second, the 855 is a great headset. It does block out more noise but it's a combo mono / stereo unit. You can remove the second loop and channel to use the headset in single ear operation or add the extra loop and phone for stereo. Very light, good loud output, good noise and sound indicators, quick pair technology and most of all manufactured, designed and owned by folks in the Santa Cruz California area. So your dollars stay in country and support / put food on the table of other local folks, not the red army like in the case of the Jawbone. Also, Plantronics has always been known for superior customer service and my personal experience would definitely back this up. Third you have the glasses. Nice here because they don't cover the ear but more pricy. The Jawbone is $85 or so, Plantronics is $120 or so and Oakleys are $300 I believe. The glasses though also look really sharp and for folks like me who wear shades and headsets it's a much more clean solution because the headset isn't disturbed by the side jackets on the shades. My other glasses bump up against the ear stabilizers of the other headsets so that's something to consider. All of these can sync up with a bluetooth dongle although the Plantronics is able to support A2DP so sound quality should be far superior.

Hope that helps.

Hi guys,

I am still looking to see if anyone out there knows of a map for St.
Thomas.

Also, my vet is interested in a Bluetooth headset to use with the
VoiceNote and GPS. Any information on the best style and how the dongle
works?

Is it possible to add an external number-pad to the VoiceNote?

Thanks!
