Situation 7:
The BrailleNote is unique in its ability to have multiple states loaded at
the same time so you can calculate routes over hundreds of miles. Other
adaptive GPS products and many main stream GPS mapping programs only allow
portions of a state to be loaded and used at a time.
Question 7:
How many states can I load at once and how should I arrange them?
Answer 7:
The BrailleNote GPS allows a maximum of 12 maps to be loaded in a folder at
the same time. Ten states have more than one map segment and this counts in
the maximum of twelve. If you have Look-Around mode turned off, everything
should work fine at this maximum level. On the other hand, there is no
reason to take the time to load maps that you use infrequently nor to take
processing power to deal with extra maps.
To maximum performance and convenience, divide your maps into multiple
folders. Unlike other programs, you can use large memory cards to store as
much data as you wish. You can now find Compact flash cards in 2 GB and 4
GB sizes. Use multiple cards if you wish.
Here is an updated section of the BrailleNote ReadMe file pertaining to map
arrangements. We update the ReadMe document whenever there is something
important to document. You can get the latest ReadMe file on the Sendero
Download link.
If you wish to arrange maps regionally, here is a recommended arrangement.
First is the suggested map folder name followed by the number of maps in
that folder. Note the numeral before some of the states indicating multiple
map segments for that state. Set your home region with the folder name
"Maps" so it will load by default.
