[gps-talkusers] Re: Situation 6, forcing a particular route calculation

Correspondingly, how would you explain why it chooses one pedestrian route
over another?

I recently helped a friend set a rout from her home to a building on a
nearby college campus. When it set the automatic route it chose to go left
from her front door to the nearest intersecting street and turn up that
street. This resulted in a less direct route than if she had been told to
turn right and go to the intersecting street at the other end of the block.
Was this because it calculated the distance to the first intersection and
chose the closest one rather than calculating total
route length or vectoring a most direct route?

Subject: [gps-talkusers] Situation 6, forcing a particular route
calculation

Situation 6:
I have calculated a route from my house in Davis to Sacramento and the
BrailleNote chooses to go through town. I know the freeway is better.

Question 6:
How do I force the BrailleNote to take a particular routing?

Answer 6:
The BrailleNote GPS software currently chooses the fastest vehicular route
based upon the street map data's designation of number of lanes and speed
limit. In the future, we might add an option for fastest or shortest routes.

I can force a particular routing by creating multiple routes for each
significant segment of the total route. First, I create a route from my
house to the freeway and then a second route from the freeway to
Sacramento. I then must load the first route and when I reach the
destination, I load the second route. This is the best work around for the
moment.
