Hi All,
I was very glad to learn that the July 29 chat topic was to
clarify the various BN resets. However, I was unable to attend
in real time. I just finished listening to the audio file and
find that I still have questions.
Reset alone was well described and I am very comfortable with it.
Reset with SDF in my case was also well described and I now
understand it much better.
Reset with JKL is still a mystery to me. The BN help index
indicates that it is to be done when the BN memory has been
corrupted. What would be the indication of that? That is, how
is that different to the end user from the BN not acting as
expected or not responding? That is the indication for the
regular reset. If one does a reset with JKL, is there a chance
that updates or external programs such as the Oxford Dictionary
or the GPS program would need to be reinstalled?
I think the confusion for me has been that the BN manual
indicates that the SDF reset takes the unit back to the factory
default. It doesn't explain to my satisfaction that the regular
reset brings the external programs and BN updates since the
factory installation back into play. It was here that I learned
this important detail.
If the BN crashes such as mine has done frequently, in what order
should the resets be tried?
I have had to go so far as to do a reset with the record button
to get my unit back on its feet. There have been a few times
when even that has failed and the unit has had to be shipped for
repair.
I know that this is not related specifically to GPS, but since a
chat session was to be devoted to it, I thought it might be
appropriate to ask these questions here.
Thank you in advance for any clarification.
Joleen
