[gps-talkusers] Re: Radio Shack, I Go charger

Mike,

This is fascinating to a tech hungry but not tech savvy reader. I've been
reading about the Trekker and your GPS system. I also need to replace my
laptop (stolen from my office), and am trying to understand which way to
go - another laptop/notebook bought now with GPS to follow in a year or two
or three (I can wait) until it's even more evolved and there are more
choices), OR a VoiceNote purchased now in lieu of a laptop. So here -
finally - is my question. Why would you want to carry both a Braille Note
and a laptop? What does the laptop do that the Voice Note would not do?

Thanks!
Cindy

How about charging your BrailleNote and Earthmate from one charger?

As anyone who travels knows, the more devices you carry, the more chargers
you have to drag along. I typically travel with at least 5 devices that
need charging, the BrailleNote, the Earthmate receiver, my Nokia phone, my
Bluetooth headset for the phone and my laptop. These chargers can be heavy,
bulky and even require bringing a power strip.

I just purchased 2 Radio Shack "I go" chargers to charge all 5 devices.

The standard I go is $59 and will charge 2 devices at once. It figures out
the power requirements of each device automatically. There is both an AC
power cord and a 12-volt cigarette lighter adapter.

It comes with one device tip and you can add others. I took my devices to
the Shack and they picked out the connectors and put them on the
appropriate cords.

The charger consists of two flat boxes and the various cords can be
removed. A standard power cord plugs into the wall so you don't have to
worry about a big power cube. I used the standard charger for my phone and
Bluetooth headset.

I also purchased the laptop version of the I Go for $119. It is similar to
the standard but the interface box is thicker, like you would normally see
for a laptop charger. It comes with a collection of tips for various
laptops including the Dell which I have. I purchased the optional number 4
connector, which fits the BrailleNote. This way, I can switch tips for one
cable between the laptop and the BrailleNote. I have the other cable with a
tip for the Earthmate, the A12.

I really like the fact that I now have chargers that work with AC and in
the car as well. I never had a 12-volt charger for the BrailleNote and now
I do.

I didn't check yet to see if they also switch between 110 and 220 volts but
I assume they do. I'll have to see if I can get UK and European power cords.

Each charger comes with a vinyl carrying case. Pretty cool.
