[gps-talkusers] Re: Questions about the Earth Mate receiver

Oh okay I got you. Can the receiver be removed from the cloth pouch? I
am impressed at ow small it is. I just wish it was wireless w/ the BN.

Hello, Sarai,
I did not say the cloth was yellow. It should be black. the receiver
is
yellow and should be some other color. The Earthmate is designed to be
connected to a PDA or Palm or BN PK or some other very small computer
with a
screen. The sighted guy looks at the screen on his PDA. The GPS
receiver
is small enough to be carried in a shirt pocket or an arm pocket in a
bush
jacket.

Okay,
Actually the cloth isn't yellow, its black I think. If it doesn't have a
screen, how do sighted people use it sense its an off the shelf
receiver?

Hello, Sarai,
The receiver is probably in a cloth pouch. That just protects it, and
won't interfere with reception at all, unless the pouch just happens to
be made of cloth which has metal threads running through it. Also,
since the receiver is bright yellow for some strange reason, the cloth
pouch kind of lowers the profile, and does not present such an inviting
target. The Earthmate GPS receiver has no screen or buttons. It plugs
into your BN or PK or laptop, and that serves as the controller and
indicator. If you are using the battery pack, the receiver plugs into
the battery pack. The connector has a lock button it, so use a little
caution when disconnecting so you won't break anything. I have the USB
cable with mine, so the battery pack is not necessary. I think most
people wear it near the top of their shoulder strap, with the cable
running down the strap to their BN. If the cable is too long, just put
a few short loops in the cable and fasten them together with a rubber
band.

Hi,
Okay, the receiver is surrounded by cloth and I don't see the screen or
the buttons, so where are they? Also, the battery pack, where is the
outlet and where do you put it when wearing it?
