Hello everyone,
This is in response to Jerry's email just now on the email thread
which just wont die (smile)
I know Jerry you and a number of people want this topic to end since
it doesn't really have anything to do with GPS, the problem is if a
person hasn't been reading all these messages and then they start
reading them, they might respond to a message posted days ago before
reading all the rest of the emails and reading the point that we
shouldn't be responding to this email any more on this public
list. If you want feel free to write someone off list.
That is really the only problem with how some of us read email is if
you don't read all the emails first then go back to reply you get
multiple people answering the same question and people responding to
emails such as this one which is off topic.
I am not pointing any fingers here, and Rick you were perfectly in
your right to post your original email and some of us even learnt a
thing or two, so thanks for that.
One thing I try to do when I know there are a bunch of email's
relating to the same topic is read them all first then go back and
respond to the ones which haven't been addressed yet. I think if
more of us do that then we will get less duplication and a healthier
email exchange.
So Jerry and all, please be patient as I am sure this topic will die
down soon. (smile)
Thanks everyone.
Charles.

Hello there,
Please folk I agree with Charles that this topic is to far out of
the GPS discussion. If you are afraid then lock your door and throw
the key away and do not answer your door again. This is a GPS list
not a Copper and Victim list. Thank
I know that a lot of people have responded, but here is another
suggestion. If you got the man's name, ask the department if you
could get together with them for a blindness awareness
seminar. That may help the Police become more aware of the blind
people in your community.

Hi folks,
Sunday was a perfect late September day in New Jersey, where I live,
so I decided to take me and my guide dog on a 2-mile walk at around
8 am. We have a wonderful route in a quiet residential neighborhood.
I was carrying mhy BrailleNote QT 32, and my old Magellan receiver,
since I had left my newer one at work. I stopped to adjust some
route settings and proceeded.
About 5 minutes later a car pulled up beside me, and the driver
said, "Excuse me, are you blind?"
I told him yes, though I thought it a strange question with my dog
and harness in full view.
"What's that thing on your shoulder?" he inquired.
I told him about the BrailleNote and the GPS, and some things it
could do, and then I heard the police radio. I found that one of the
neighbors was concerned and suspicious because I was typing into a
little computer in front of the house. For the life of me, I don't
know what they thought I might be doing in full view in broad daylight.
The thing that bothered me most about this amusing encounter was the
officer didn't immediately identify himself as a policeman before
asking me questions. A person believing a questioner to be a
civilian might ignore him or tell him to go to Hell or worse, which
is not the kind of talk a policeman likes to hear.
