[gps-talkusers] Re: Phone/scanner

Hi

My N82 came with the Nokia earphones which also has a microphone feature. When you plug its jack into the socket, no questions will be asked as it is part of the phone's accessory and the phone recognizes the earphone and microphone. In the case of Chris description, any earphone without the microphone will generate that question and the phone informs you that you have to use the phone's microphone in case you try to talk to the caller with the phone still in your belt-pouch or pocket.

Hi,
on the top of the N82 there's an ear phone jack.
I have a standard pare of ear buds that I just removed from my stream.
When I plug into the n82 a menu comes up that says select enhancement.
Headphone is the first choice so I hit soft key 1to select.
it then says use phone microphone and the sound is coming out of my
ear bud.

Hope this helps.

I don't think the audio out is exactly 8th inch. Cell phones use a slightly different wired adapter that feels very similar although I can't recall the

Hmmm, I wonder if my N82 is defective. When I plugged in a standard
eighth-inch cord from the phone to an external speaker, audio kept playing
from
the phone. It didn't switch to the external speaker.

I also think the KNFB Reader Mobile is an excellent product with a lot of potential. I use it daily for a variety of tasks ranging from reading my
mail, to class handouts, to recipes I want to try. In terms of the GPS
solution, I'm currently trying out Wayfinder Access and I like the
concept,
but not necessarily the implementation. Fortunately, it does have its uses as it did get me to my location successfully this morning at 2:00 AM when
I
needed to send out a package via FedEx. In order to get around the low
audio
issue, I'm currently using my N82 with a small speaker I purchased from
Sendero. This speaker just plugs in to the headset jack and functions
rather
well from inside my jacket pocket. Unfortunately it is not Bluetooth,
however, it gets the job done rather nicely, giving you crisp audio
response
from your phone. Needless to say, I managed to find the FedEx Kinko's with
little to no trouble at 2:00 Am, while traveling the traffic filled
streets
of Chicago. I also want to say that I'd never traveled the root by foot
until this morning, which is a plus for Wayfinder Access.

I am really liking the KNFB reader on the phone. Sure, the phone doesn't
have the fastest processor on the planet but the ability to scan and read
something independently is absolutely fantastic. You literally have to
press a couple buttons and you are hearing the scanned information.

GPS on a phone is a different thing altogether. For one thing, using it
while walking around is an issue in terms of hearing the information or
holding the phone up to your ear or using a headphone.
You typically need to have everything announced automatically, which
Wayfinder doesn't do, or do a lot of key presses, which is a hassle when
walking around.
These user interface issues on a cell phone must be addressed before GPS
is practical or productive.

P.S. Sendero carries the KNFB reader.

Yes, it is released. I have one here. It is the N82 phone, which runs
on the
Symbian OS.

Hello,
Is there any information about the new
phone endorsed by NFB that has the GPS along with the scanner?
