Actually, the thing that I find to be more reliable is the reported accuracy
in feet/metre. There have been times when I have had 12  satellites with a
reported accuracy of 1082 feet, which isn't that accurate and I surely
wouldn't want to find a building with that kind of accuracy. So, I would
recommend checking the reported accuracy in feet/metre, the units  will
differ depending on what one has set in the GPS options under Units.

Hi Juley:
 
When a friend and I mapped Texas Tech, we both had GPS's and split the task.
We walked up to each of the main doors of the major buildings on campus
(Assuming that they are more than 100 feet apart) and dropped a user POI. We
also mapped all of the campus shuttle bus stops. If there were major
landmarks like the famous Texas Tech Red Raider Horse or a fountain in the
middle of a field, we mapped that as a point of reference.
 
Mike's right in that it can be done faster with an electric cart, but some
POI's you really have to walk up to as the parking lot of drive by can be
many many feet away from the actual door. One more thought is to make sure
you've got a good set of satellite fixes when you make your POI's. Avoid
overhangs and breezeways. In the case of the latter, go to the most
prominent or publicly accessible point to make your POI. I like to have at
least 5 plus satellites when dropping user POI's although others on this
list may feel differently.

Hello,
 
I am an O&M Specialist (currently on a leave of absence while back in
school) and I'm learning how to use Sendero GPS so that I my teach it in the
future. I'm working on learning how to set POIs create manual routes; it was
suggested that a good place to work on this would be on a college campus. At
this time, I'm just going to be making a few routes for my own practice, but
I was wondering what types of POIs other people have done for college
campuses -- what is most helpful?
