Hello, Tara,
Well, I am a little disappointed. I thought that you said you got those
demos from some web site somewhere. That way, we could all have a go at
them. This kind of reminds me of what happened when I bought my first
cellphone. I found one that was reasonably priced and wanted to try it out
in my neighborhood. The dealer said he could not loan me one to try, I
would have to buy it first. Well, like a fool, I believed all his hype and
bought it, signing the required two year contract, only to learn a couple
hours later that I would have to walk several blocks in order for it to
work. That was several years ago, and we still have not resolved our
differences. I have paid nothing on my contract and he has not refunded any
money to me. Although you are looking to buy a GPS system, not a cellphone,
the lesson is clear: Caveat Emptor. I hope you have better luck.

Dick
I am located in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. There is a training place called
Virtual Visual Technology outside of the city that has the Trekker and Pac
Mate GPS units. They are willing to do a demo with me in a few weeks. I
don't know if they would be willing to loan the units to me or not, though.

Hello, Ms. Felix,
As you read about GPS from the various places, you will begin to realize
that most of what they say has little information or meaning, and is slanted
toward promoting their own products, with the truth
taking a back seat.
Please tell us where you got those Trekker and PacMate demos.

Thanks so much for the very simple statement. I am starting to understand.
So I need to research three players not all the other technology.
OK so now I have another question for all of you GPS users. What are the
pros and cons of each of them???? As users I would guess you have your
favorites and reasons why they are your favorites. So spill, as they say.
I did find a place where I can get a demo of the Trekker and the pac mate
GPS unit.
Thanks so much all of your for the explanations. I already fell smarter!!!!

Hi Tara,
OK, the Blue Logger, Earthmate and Magellan are GPS receivers. the
Blue Logger is wireless, using Bluetooth technology to connect to a
notetaker or PDA.
These receivers connect to notetakers, most notably the BrailleNote
and the PacMate. These are adaptive equipment for the blind.
The Trekker GPS system uses a standard PDA, (Personal Data Assistant),
which has a plastic overlay so that it can be used by the blind.
That should be a start. Keep asking questions.
