[gps-talkusers] It's official: my GPS is insane

To all:

I finally was able to use my GPS for route creation and following today (it got up to FIFTY DEGREES!!!!!!) I created a simple route: go down a street, passing another street on the right, then turn right at the next street. Take the next left turn, the next right, then the next left again. My GPS first told me that I had to turn left on the street I was supposed to pass--if I had listened, I would have crossed a busy street into an empty, muddy plot of land. I kept going straight, and was told the rest of the turns correctly, if not rather inaccurately. I then plotted a second route from where I was back to my house (I had not started from my house the first time, so the route would be different). I was told to take a left onto a street, and that was correct. At the intersection, though, I was told to turn left at two streets, the names of which were not even close to correct. (The streets it told me I was approaching were the next street over and I was going ninety degrees in the wrong direction to have taken the turn it wanted me to take). I finally got going, and, after it skipped announcing two streets, it told me to turn right. (Correct, but too early).

It seems as though the GPS thought I was a street over and going in the wrong direction, until the final street which it announced correctly. It also told me, about fifty yards inaccurately, that I had "arrived near destination".

Through the whole adventure, I had between 4 and 9 satellites, almost never as low as four. I was disappointed that my system didn't function correctly, but maybe this is a software thing with KS 7 on MPowers. I hope my receiver will not have to be replaced, but, if it does, now would be the time as the temperature is supposed to drop back into the twenties and below. Yes sir, just a standard Maine winter.

Thanks, and have a great day,
Alex
