[gps-talkusers] Re: I: question about college campuses

Hello Sarai et all,

Having one huge User.poi file can slow down your system so that is one reason why you would want to have separate ones. Probably one for each map. I.e. you typically are either at home in Minnesota, but you go to school in California. You could have both maps and one user.poi file in your maps directory which may be fine but remember if lookaround is on then it is always searching both California and Minnesota POIs all the time.

It would be better to have more than one map folder one for your home and another when you travel and therefor would have two user.poi files one in each map directory.

Now the mPower and PK are quite fast and you probably won't notice any slowdown whatsoever when you have both maps in one directory. Actually you could probably have more than a dozen before you notice anything at all. But just keep in mind it does have to check those other POI files to make sure you are not near any of them.

To create another user.poi file just rename the current one to something else like userhome.poi and a new user.poi file will get created when you add a new poi.

Note: you won't see any of the poi's in userhome.poi until you rename that back to user.poi. So that is an option but its a lot easier just to have a separate map directory with a different user.poi file in each directory.

So why would you want to do this you are asking, if you only have one map why rename the user.poi file to create a new one. The answer is simple. You are going to a campus and want all the POIs you create in one file without having any personal pois you previously created to be in this file. Then you can send this new user.poi file with all the "campus" pois from your school to Sendero and we can put them in the collective user poi files so others can download them (without having your personal pois like home, barb's house, mailbox etc in it.)

Hope this clears this issue up.

It is also important to note that the primary part of the POI name is
separated from the details by the first comma. For example: Jones Hall.
northwest doors, science department

Note the comma before science department and the period after Jones
Hall. The period pauses the speech and the first comma separates the POI
announcement from the details you can get with chord P.

Be consistent in your naming scheme.

It is also helpful if you start a fresh User.poi file when you record
all the points.
