Doesn't the sirf3 chipset support both waas and the european egnos? Or are
you referring to a different european standard? And what kind of functions
are available in the new birds going up?

Hello all,
The m1000 is not the next generation, it is still using the same Sirf Star
III chipset as the slim 236. Yes it has improved battery and sensitivity
but it will not be able to handle the next generation of satellites being
launched or be compatible with the European system etc. BTW those are
years off before you need to worry about a new receiver. Sirf is working
on improving sensitivity, accuracy, detecting and trying to eliminate
multipath. Their latest efforts have not yet even reached the GPS
manufacturers so there is still bigger and better things to come down the
pipe.
My suggestion to you all is, if you have a Slim 236 and you are happy with
it, keep it, save your money right now, but if you have to have the latest
and greatest, you can't beat the m-1000. We have been testing it with
side by side comparisons with other GPS receivers and felt it currently is
the best on the market for our customers.
Charles.

generation! Jim

Hmmm!! for that matter what is your price for the slim 236?I might be able
to afford it.as a spare. the only spare I have now is a Blue logger and
its capture time is terrible especially after using the Holux, either one
of them.
the thing that really gets me about my slim 236 is that it gets
recognized by the Bluetooth receiver on the M Power, I can active sink
it and get it to be recognized by the GPS software. It worked one day,
and the next it didn't.
No, GRIN, I didn't either, drop it in my coffee!!

Hi Claude, ah you probably dropped the thing in your coffee! Well, I
think the things are a little more rugged than you give them credit. I
just tried the link from Alex and the page was down or not there. Sure
sounds great, specially that the battery and charger etc. are all usable,
and the acquisition time is better. Jim

Hi, Jim,
Keep it for a backup. Btw, the case for the M-1,000 has a snap closure
so, the receiver is less apt to fall out of the case and get crunched.
I think that is what must have happened to my Slim 236, at least That is
all I can think of , and I only dropped it once on a chair floor pad in
the home office. So Go figure.

So who wants a reasonably priced Holux Slim 236 so I can purchase the new
one? Heck if you have an old serial garmin or whatever, the 236 would be
great! Jim
