[gps-talkusers] Re: Garmin GPS10

Would this not be do to the little bit of randomizing they do with the
satellite system to throw off the 1-ton bum that would not matter if it
missed by 20 feet?

We continue to test a variety of receivers. The beauty of not being
locked into one receiver is that we can change at any time.

For example, there is a new chip that proports to have sensativity
down to -159 DBM, quite a bit better than that used by the Blue
Logger, Freedom and the Garmin. I have even found it to pick up inside a
mall.

There are always trade offs and we are just learning what those are.

It is important to note that the number of satellites tracked is not
the ultimate indicator of position accuracy. Once you have 4
satellites, each additional satellite makes little difference. The
systems use the best 4 satellites out of 8 or 10 satellites being
received. The scale is not linear. This is why we have the quality
rating of Poor, Fair, Good and Very good.

It is also amazing to me that I can have 3 receivers of exactly the
same brand and all report different figures right next to each other.
