[gps-talkusers] Re: GPS with PDA

Hi Andy,

Will try treckker, thought it only works with their hardware. Does it have POI kind of facility?

Since I do have 0 vision, I guess have to wait for Garmin to be fully accessible.

Dinesh

Hi Dinesh,

The Trekker runs off of an off-the-shelf PDA, but I do not know if they
have maps for India. If you have some vision, you could use the Garmin
nuvi. It is handheld, about the size of a PDA, and has a display that
is easy to read, even for some with low vision. My wife has low vision,
and has no problem reading the screen. It has some speech capability,
but it is very limited. The touch screen interface does require that
you have some vision. I believe that they have maps for most of the
world. It also has a foreign language translator, currency converter,
travel guide, digital music player, and Auduble book reader. It has
about 700 MB of internal memory and also accepts SD memory cards. In
the U. S. it can be purchased through on line sources like Amazon.com
for about $650.

Hope this helps,
Andy

Hi all,

I have checked on the website, but can not find a way to use Sendero
with off the shelf PDAs.

There are other softwares as well, like wayfinder and tomtom, but I am
not sure if they are as good as sendero, or at least they are accessible
for blind persons.

Want to try them for my area, i.e. India, and just for trial buying
braille note does not seem to be a good idea.

Also as per indian standard braille note might be too expensive.

Searched for other options like garment GPS system, but it rather seem
to be for cars.

Is there any thing which might work for this region?

Regards Dinesh
