Sendero GPS V3.1 Changes, February 15, 2005

The BrailleNote GPS 3.1 version for the BrailleNote Keysoft 6.1 has the
same GPS features as for the BrailleNote PK, however, it is compiled for
two different processors. See the ReadMe document for known issues and
important tips not covered in the manual.

Here are some of the more notable changes in Sendero's GPS 3.1 over version
3. Transparent improvements, under the hood, are not listed here. A
separate document lists the changes from Version 2 to version 3.

* The BrailleNote's underlying operating system has been upgraded from
Windows CE version 2.1 to CE version 4.20. Accordingly, this GPS version is
more robust due to better memory management and other architectural changes
under the new Windows CE version.

* The PK GPS has been upgraded with the Richmap Engine Version 3.1, which
has improved route calculation speed and quality.

* Route calculations and POI searches are 7 to 10 times as fast on the PK
as the Keysoft 5.1 BrailleNote. GPS Route calculations and POI searches are
20% to 40% faster under Keysoft 6.1 versus Keysoft 5.

* The maximum number of maps that can be loaded at once is increased to 18
for the PK versus 12 for the BrailleNote. It is still recommended to use
the minimal number of maps and POI files.

* F and Dot 4 now search for nearest points within a mile without asking
for a search string. This expedites a quick search for nearby points.

* The PK GPS defaults to a Bluetooth receiver type and the BrailleNote to a
Serial GPS receiver type.

* When loading or creating a virtual route, you will be placed at waypoint
1 rather than at 0.

* Now Virtual mode has its own (Force Sequential Route following, Auto
Increment Waypoints, and Detailed/Turns only mode) separate from GPS.

* You can now enter the name of a POI at the end of an address look-up
instead of only being able to use the address as the default POI name.

* RK is a new command: If you wish to create a list of favorite POIs, you
can now highlight a point of interest, press R then K and you will be asked
if you wish to add this POI. You must have a route open, which the POI will
be copied into. This is a means of putting a collection of POIs in one file
that you may wish to reference. For example, you want to go to a Mexican
restaurant and you search for all restaurants within a mile. Copy the ones
that sound interesting into a route called Mexican Restaurants. You can
save your list for future reference and you have the phone number, address
and the position of each point.

If you wish to explore the area of any of these points, press Chord V to
set it as your virtual position after highlighting it. You could also
rename the point with a new phone number or annotation of how good the food
was.

* The destination position is now saved upon exiting the GPS program. It
will remain active when you re-enter the GPS program.

* Chord D is now a toggle between setting a destination and deactivating
the destination.

* The sequence has been changed for announcing the Destination. It is now,
Distance, Direction to Name, and Compass if you are set to clock face mode.
Remaining distance to a destination is usually the most important
information so it is announced first, followed by the direction to the
destination. One can repeatedly press D to quickly hear the distance to
destination without having to hear the name over and over again.

* When you press RV or RP when a destination is active, the BrailleNote
will automatically calculate the route without asking if you wish to save a
previously created route. This speeds up the process of calculating new
routes when you get off-course. If you wish to save a route, make sure and
do so with RS before calculating a new route.

* There is now a duplicate command for the Waypoint advance and previous
command, W and Chord W. Use the Up and Down Arrows on the QT or Dot 4 or
Dot 1 on the BT to scroll through the Waypoint list same as with the W.

* The T and Chord T Turning commands now give better information about the
connecting street names for highway ramps. The same applies to the
automatic Look-Around mode when on a ramp.

* When you pick a category in Look Around Mode (Chord M), that category was
saved even when you exited GPS. Now the category resets to "All" when you
exit GPS. This is consistent with the category behavior in the Advance Find
function.

* Advance Alert distance for next turn and intersection has been doubled.

* When you perform an Address search for all streets or cities by pressing
Enter with no text, a maximum will be generated starting at A and
proceeding through the alphabet. Remember if you search for all streets or
cities beginning with a single letter that you have to use a letter sign
before many letters on the Braille keyboard when using Grade 1 or 2,
otherwise, they will be interpreted as single word contractions. A maximum
is also set for POI searches and Waypoints in a route.

  BrailleNote with Keysoft 6.1
Max # of Cities, Streets, POIs or Waypoints, 2500 each

BrailleNote PK
Max # of Cities, Streets, POIs or Waypoints, 5000 each.

* In addition to being able to enter latitude and longitude in separate
Degrees, minutes and seconds or as one long expression, you can now enter
Degrees followed by the minutes, decimal and seconds. For example, 33
minutes and 9.4 seconds is entered into separate fields is the same as
entering 33.6382 in the minutes field. See section 8.2 in the User Manual
for examples.

GPS software including the ReadMe, the manual, the audio tutorial and the
optional GPS CourseWare.
