I am posting this question again, or perhaps for the first time, because I now
cannot remember if I actually saw the post show up or not. Any advice would be
greatly appreciated.
I have Atlas/GPS Talk version 1.85. Yes, I know, that ancient thing!
In the past, I have used the program and my GPS receiver (Holux brand) on my
old laptop running Win98, second edition.
I just received a new laptop, running XP Professional Edition, and I need some
advice on how to get the GPS receiver running with Atlas version 1.85.
I have installed version 1.85, and it seems to operate fine, except that I
cannot get the GPS receiver to work with the Atlas program.
The GPS receiver is plugged in to a USB port, and according to the device
manager, the GPS receiver is running on com port 8 when plugged into the USB
socket I am using.
I do not remember just how the GPS drivers and other stuff were installed on
the Win98 computer, but I thought I was prompted for something about the GPS
receiver. I did not notice any similar prompts about GPS when installing
version 1.85 on this XP machine.
I know the GPS receiver is working, because it is running just fine with the
Delorme Street Atlas 2004 program that I also installed on this machine.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Oh yes, the receiver is the NMEA type, and on
Delorme, it is running fine when identified merely as a "generic NMEA"
receiver. I also have the official latest XP drivers for the device, so I
think all is well with the receiver end of things.
Much thanks in advance for any suggestions.
