Since I don't use the current version of the app, I will post my comments here. Honestly I think the application is still lacking some things that really should have been in the first release. The nearby explorer application, which has only been out for a few months on IOS has already far surpassed the Sendero application. Granted, it was developed for Android first and the features were carried over to IOS so that gave it an advantage. The main thing that the Sendero app needs is more automatic feedback, especially when the screen is locked. When you change direction, the app should automatically indicate this as soon as it detects it, and the approaching street should be spoken as soon as it can be determined. As you continue to move towards that street, the distance should be provided. This information is available, but you need to touch the screen to read it. When walking with a cane or guide dog, this is not practical. When you reach a street, the app does speak it automatically, but only once you are very close to it. With nearby explorer, unless you disable it, all of this information is provided even when your screen is locked, so you can tell right away if you're going the wrong direction. With the Sendero app, you may end up walking almost a block before you realize this. I realize that the Sendero app and nearby explorer are two separate applications by different developers, but I do think nearby explorer provides a great example of how a blindness specific gps app should work. If the sendero app would have this kind of automatic feedback when the screen is locked, it would be much more competitive.
