It is actually the direction of travel that matters. If you sat in the back 
and drove the car backwards, it would work fine. If you are driving 
forward, the GpS has to be in the front window.

You may recall emails on this list about riding on the Virgin trains in 
England. I have confirmed that the tinted windows on the Virgin trains 
completely obscure the GPS signal. The same applies to cars. Also, the 
defrost elements in the back window of a car can block the signal. It is 
the metal blocking the signal.

Just kidding about the direction of travel.
