[gps-talkusers] Earthmate and tinted windows

Hi, all. Last night we went to Carmichael to some friends' house, and then
headed off for dinner in Folsom. I was really excited, having never gone
to Folsom with GPS. At first I sat in the backseat with our friend's
wife. The windows in the vehicle were very tinted, and for the life of me,
I couldn't get a fix. Fortunately, my husband being the sensitive guy he
is, asked if we could stop so I could sit in the front seat, and our friend
was happy to do so. Once I got in the front seat, where the windows
weren't tinted, I got a good fix. So I'm curious: Does GPS not work with
tinted windows? Or was it because I was in the backseat of the
vehicle? Or perhaps it was both. I know with my old Sportrak I could get
a fix from the backseat although it seemed to work better from the front,
since I'd have front and side windows to work with.

Just curious to hear others' experiences when riding in a car, especially
Earthmate users, since that's what I'm using now. How insistent are you
about where you sit in a vehicle when you want to use GPS? I don't want to
be a pain, but I like to "look out of the window" too.

Comments, anyone?

Peggy
