Deon,

You will need an amplified speaker for the BrailleNote. I don't know the specs but I have tried a lot of headphones and speakers and you need an amp of a wat or two.

Otherwise, it is not worth the trouble of the external speaker and wire. I also recommend getting a speaker cable with L-shaped connectors.
