John,
Yes ,ViaVoice is an IBM synthesizer, which was part of OpenBook.
I don't know why it would hang. It has been a long time since I messed
with this and it was a DOS program so there is a dance you have to do to
get it working under XP.

Mike,
It didn't work the first time I tried it but I will try again. Is
ViaVoice Outlowd a software synthesizer?
When the Install asked me if I wanted to install a map I told it No since
I coppied my Map folder and when I hit N and enter it asked me where I
wanted to load the maps from. I couldn't get past that point. Any
suggestions?

the S&A.ini file and change speech and drivers. Make sure and follow the
same syntax.

want No Speach and use my regular screen reader? I am using Window-Eyes
5.5.
