[gps-talkusers] A newbie with a problem finding a poi I know is there

I recently tried to create a route from my home(Fairfield, California) to the El Dorado casino in Reno, Nevada. I pressed read with f to do a poi search. Then I began my search 140 miles to start and 160 miles as the max, for Reno is about 150 miles away. However, when I get to the category section. I do not find anything that even resembles a casino under the category list. So I tried choosing all and typed in my search string: el dorado. But I keep getting a no poi found response. Am I doing something wrong? This casino is one of the more popular ones in Reno so I would think it would be listed. Any ideas?

Regards,

Al Taitague

A manual route is one where you program your own way points instead of having the unit do this for you. I find this particularly useful when working off street grids. The biggest advantage in my opinion is that you can even program these routes where very little mapping has taken place. For example, I live in a park that simply shows up as Trails West, but I have programmed many routes within the park by simply hitting R for route, O for open and typing in the desired name. If the route does not already exist the until will provide prompts in very much the same way as for creating new word processing documents which haven't yet been created. You can then use K with space if you have a braille keyboard and follow the prompts to create your own way point. This is great for rural environments. I have even used it to locate my tent in a crowded campground. Be sure to hit r and C to close the route and it will ask if you want to save it. You can also simply go back to the main menu and the unit will provide prompts for saving the route. I hope this helps explain the difference. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Karen Bailey" <karenb74@xxxxxxxxxxx>

Hi, I think the idea of a monthly chat is good and I would be more likely to do this. I have a hard time remembering about the weekly because am so busy then. If there were a specific topic of interest I could then schedule and make the effort. I have a question. What is the manual route creation? How is that different from automatic. I am still trying to figure this whole thing out. I have created route by just putting rv for vehicle or pedestrian. Still am confused about some things, and am big braille user, and sometimes learn slower when by speech. Thanks. Karen and Harpo Also
