When you are over an area that isn't mapped or you don't have maps for, the
A and C commands will give you the message, " position unknown"
It is great to hear your story of using the GPS as a new user.
It looks like you are picking up things quite well and experimenting as you
used it during flight.
For better GPS coverage on a plane, it is best that the receiver is placed
against the window. Honestley, it wouldn't make a difference if you had 10
feet accuracy as compared to 50 feet when you are traveling at 500MPH and at
40,000 feet.

You need to have the state maps loaded for each state the plane is flying
over so if you are over a state and it is not in your map folder you will
not get any a or c commands, but you will get speed and alt. because that is
a sat to recerver only and does not need a map only a software to receiver
to sat connection.
