Bill,

I know you've advised this method before and it's fine as far as it goes -
it turns off the whole cell blinking, but you can't implement an underlined
cursor to replace the flashing, or am I missing a trick here?

Best wishes.

Technically speaking, we don't use the braille cursor function that is part
of JAWS at all. That is, the blinking effect can apply to one or more cells
depending on the currently highlighted note in the score. That is, the
corresponding braille for that note may be a single cell or, for example,
say 4 cells showing a tenuto mark, and octave sign and the note itself. The
blink rate can be set using Start Menu | Programs | Lime | Accessibility
options. You can experiment by varying the "on" or the "off" times. To
completely turn off the blinking, set your "off time" to 0.

Bill

Hi,

We are looking into other cursor indicators but for now play with the on and
off blink times as David Simpson suggested.

Thanks,
Albert

Since I'm not part of the development team, I can only speculate that, for
some reason, the usual method for indicating a blinking cursor on a braille
display--pulsating dots 7 & 8--was not possible. So, causing the character
in focus to blink was another option. In any event, its purpose is to
indicate which note is currently in focus.
I use the braille display in two ways. Sometimes, in the Lime window, I
use the Lime keys to navigate through the score, so that I can hear the
music and read the measure that is currently in focus on the braille
display. If I want to move around the score a bit more freely in braille, I
alt-tab to the Braille window that is available when Lime is running, where
I can use the "forward" and "back" thumb keys on my display to move forward
and backward in the score. For this to work, you will probably want to set
the JAWS braille option to have the active cursor follow the braille cursor.
Usually, there's a key on the braille display to toggle this setting, but if
not, you can change it in the JAWS braille settings. To do this, make sure
you're in the Lime window, then hold down the JAWS key and press F2 to bring
up the list of JAWS managers. The top item (the one you'll probably land
on) is called "Adjust Braille Options." You'll find it there.

Ok, thank you David I appreciate it. would it be possible to implement a
checkbox in the next release to just have the display not blink?
what was the impetus for such a feature in the first place and what are the
advantages of it? Is there information on the best way to use lime with a
braille display? I have a braillenote 32 btw, connected by a serial cable
although a bluetooth dongle might be in order since the keyboard is across
the room. Thanks, Dave Bahr

Dave,
I don't know of a checkbox for turning the blinking on and off, but you
can certainly experiment with the on- and off-time settings in the
Accessibility options. These are measured in tenths of a second. I set my
on-time to 12 and my off-time to 2. So, this means that the cell in focus
is on for 1.2 seconds and off for .2 secs. You might want to play with
longer on-times.
To get to the Accessibility options, go to Start menu, Programs, Lime
submenu. The Accessibility Options are the first item in that submenu.

Hi there, is it possible to turn off the braille display's ability to blink
when the music is highlighted. I find this feature to be really kind of
annoying at present because I am slow at reading the music and it keeps
popping up and down under my fingers making it hard to grasp what I want to
read. Any thoughts? Thanks, Dave Bahr
