OK, keep at it and I'm sure you can make it work for you. Here's a more
concise version of my instructions from yesterday. If you cannot hear your
piece play back in SharpEye when you select Play from SharpEye's File menu,
take the following steps:

Press ALT+O, D, to open the MIDI Options dialog.

Press TAB a few times to move to the MIDI Velocity field. If it is set at a
low number (say, 10 or less) you will not hear your piece play back. That is,
SharpEye actually is playing it back when you select "Play" from the File menu
but you cannot hear anything because the MIDI velocity level is set too low.

Type in a much higher value for Velocity and you should be able to hear the
piece play back. Try 100 or more. Maximum allowable level is 127.

TAB to the OK button and press space bar or ENTER to close the MIDI Options
dialog.

Now, press ALT+F, L to listen to your piece.

Bill

Thank you, Bill. I am still persevering with this, though I am not there yet.
Velocity keeps dropping down to 10 again. I will take another look on your
website as I'm sure I am just getting bogged down, thinking I have memorised
processes when I have only half done so. I am full of admiration for you and
the others who can understand all this. Perhaps I will get there one day. Clare

Hi, Clare,

It sounds as though you may have already tried setting SharpEye's MIDI Options
but, just in case, try the following:

Open an existing music file in SharpEye with CONTROL+O or scan a print score in
and perform the "Read" step so that there is something to play back in SharpEye.

Press ALT+O, D, to open the MIDI Options dialog.

Press TAB twice to move to the playback tempo field and set it to your
preference. It represents beats per minute like a standard metronomic marking.

TAB once again to go to the MIDI Velocity field. If it is set at a low number
(say, 10 or less) you will not hear playback even though it is in progress.
Type in a value of 100 or more. Maximum level is 127.

TAB to the OK button and press space bar or ENTER to close the MIDI Options
dialog.

After some experimentation, I discovered that SharpEye saves MIDI playback
values with each piece. That is, each time it opens an existing music file,
SharpEye resets the MIDI playback and velocity settings according to that
piece. BTW, SharpEye's own file extension is .mro. Also, each time you run
SharpEye, it starts up with the MIDI playback settings that were in use when
you last closed the program.

Bottom line is, check SharpEye's MIDI Options often and set them to your
preference.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,
Bill

Hello everyone,
I wonder if anyone can suggest why music created in Sharpeye is reluctant to
play? It plays fine in Lime, so I know music is there, but I'm sure I should be
able to hear it before importing it to Lime. Winamp says it is playing.
Someone told me to check my options in Sharpeye, and when I increased the
velocity I got sound once, but haven't managed to repeat this feat. What's
more, my options, which I saved, have disappeared. I keep putting them in
again, but they don't stay. I have done a lot of reading up, and it looks as
though I would do well to get Sonar, but I like editing in Lime, so is this
really necessary? I have probably missed something really obvious, but this is
all new to me. I hope someone can help. Could somebody from Dancing Dots also
tell me who is handling Goodfeel currently in the UK, as I may need some
support now that I am finally getting off the ground. I'm essentially very
happy to work through manuals, but I can't find this Midi situation explicitly
covered anywhere.
Thanks and best wishes, Clare
