Uhm, I'm not sure what you mean. Each defined format (like 5.1) would have a channel ordering convention (I like: L, R, C, LFE, LS, RS). Thus, buffer 0 would be L, buffer 1 would be R, etc. In the case of the "N-channel" format, which is the generic bundle of N, there wouldn't be a defined ordering except for the special cases of 2 (stereo: 0 = L, 1 = R) and 4 (quad: 0 = L, 1 = R, 2 = LS, 3 = RS). Does this answer your question?
