Right. And either way - who cares about "transport sample clock"?

A sequencer implemented as a plugin, and a hard disk recorder plugin, 
would be two examples. No, one actually; the only difference is that 
one plays back recorded events while the other plays back recorded 
audio. IMHO, these things should be possible to implement as plugins, 
but I suspect that their nature of wanting to lock to a timeline, 
while not being interested in musical time, is rather uncommon.

What's the big deal if they use musical time, provided the resolution 
is better than sample accurate? There will have to be conversions 
anyway, unless "transport sample clock" is always rate locked to the 
running audio clock. (Can only happen if the HDR is master and 
derives timing from the audio interface. It's ok to slave the audio 
interface to wordclock or something similar, but anything else and 
"transport sample clock" is just as losely coupled to audio time as 
musical time.)
